management of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding In Menopausal Women

Abstract
Management of abnormal uterine bleeding in menopausal women are summarized as follows :
1) Systemic diseases, i.e., blood dyscrasia, hepatic disorders, thyroid diseases and cardiac diseases must be primarily evaluated.
2) Organic diseases of the uterus have to be confirmed through pelvic examination, pap smear, aspiration cytology and endometrial biopsy.
3) We will be able to diagnose as dysfunctional uterine bleeding if systemic diseases or organic diseases of the uterus are not present. In cases of systemic diseases, medical treatment must be primarily per-formed. The organic diseases of the uterus can be treated by surgical management according to pathologic results. The dysfunctional uterine bleeding will be controlled by hormonal therapy with progestogen or estrogen-progestogen. Lastly, progestogen challenge test must be performed to prevent further dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial cancer, monthly or annually.
